Road to Wellness: WEEK 1:

WEEK 1

Starting weight: 69.78KG

The sessions were not that easy. I focused on cardio exercises and sweat is really sweet! I am exhausted yet I feel relieved. I did some weights (2 pounds) for my arm exercise and 5 pounds for my legs. I could only hope that I could really persevere.

It's Now or Never

As my age increases, so does my weight and I just can't really help it. Earlier this year, I made some effort to lose weight by joining/initiating Zumba with my students but due to pile of works, I wasn't able to pursue it that far thus my weight was back to it's horrible number- 69KG!

Being overweight is not a funny thing. Aside from the fact that it will affect your self-confidence to the lowest level, it also affects our health. Sad but true. Going upstairs becomes a burden to me. I easily feel exhausted and I keep on catching my breath! It's been awhile that I was planning to hit the gym once in a while but just keep on procrastinating it (the spirit is willing, but the body is weak). But seriously, my asthma began to torture me for almost 4 months already and it was totally alarming! Based on some manuscripts I've read, working out will help asthma problems, thus I was really compelled to decide for good. And so this afternoon, right after work, and together with some of my colleagues, we registered ourselves to the gym. Yes, this is it. I should do it now, otherwise, I will be suffering the consequences of OBESITY!

When the Devil Strikes

One of the lessons that I learned from our Sunday preaching was that if God has plans for us, SO DOES THE DEVIL. If God's plan is to prosper us and to keep us from harm, well, obviously, the devil thought otherwise. This is one of the blatant truths that we, people, are ought to know. When devil STRIKES, it destroyed everything, including our relationship with our loved ones.

With this kind of situation, all the more we should cling to God. All the more we should obey His words. Apart from God, we are all nothing.

Hello December!

Few more days and another year will unfold. In one way or another, I am grateful to God for sustaining me. I've been through a lot this year, mostly affecting health issues of my kiddos. Still, I'm glad for the strength that He gave me. God, is indeed, simply amazing.
I am hopeful for a better 2019! I am praying for His great miracle to manifest in my life, in my family. I'm praying for financial breakthrough, for greater opportunities other than my job. I also pray for good health for my entire family, including those relatives and friends. I pray for a productive year, not just for me but for my husband as well. May God grant all my prayers. I believe that God has something good in store for me. And with that, I would say, AMEN.

Preparing for the Future

Time flew so fast, indeed. It's already November and before we knew it, the year 2018 has ended. I'm not sure if I've accomplished much for this year. But one thing for sure, I've grown older each day with so much issues on my health. Yes, this year is quite toxic for me. Two of my children were admitted to the hospital. I was about to for myself yet I hold back. That is why, I have decided to get an insurance, a life insurance. I'm not thinking for the worst thing to come, I'm just preparing myself. I saw the need, that's why I took the courage even if I've almost got nothing left from my salary. Well, that's life. You need to take drastic yet relevant decisions. I love my children so much, that's the very main reason after all.

Parenting 101: Dealing with Toddlers

Raising kids aren't a simple task. You need an extended patience seasoned with love in rearing them. Of course, you need to be a kid in heart in order to blend with them. You also need to show to them that you're in control, otherwise, they will do it for you- you might realize someday that they are the ones controlling you!

Rule of thumb: Never spoil them. Play with them but be in-charge.

Believe me coz I got three!

A Parent's Guide to the McKay Scholarship Program

The McKay Scholarship program provides the parents of special needs students in the State of Florida the opportunity to enroll their child in an educational program that may better accommodate the student's learning needs. While the scholarship will only be awarded to special needs children attending public schools in Florida, this program allows students to attend a different public school or a participating private school. Eligibility is determined by the existence of an Individualized Education Plan, which is commonly referred to as an IEP.

Eligibility Details and School Selection

While students eligible for the McKay Scholarship program must have an IEP to be eligible, there are several other criteria that must be addressed when parents are applying for funding. For instance, parents choosing a private school must ensure that a scholarship student has been accepted at the school, Similarly, a student's disability or other circumstances must not impact attendence to the point where he or she fails to be reported as enrolled and eligible for funding. Finally, parents should be aware that other requirements may apply, depending on their student's situation.
McKay Scholarship Program students may attend another school in their district or a nearby district if a parent so desires, but those who would prefer their child to attend a private school will need to verify their student's eligibility for attendence, the curriculum and other factors that they feel are important. Parents who want their children to attend a religiously oriented school will need to be certain that the institution's teachings are in line with their personal beliefs.

Research is Key

Because the program has fairly specific requirements for families seeking eligibility, parents should head directly to the program's website rather than doing an internet search for "McKay scholarships Tampa." If the information provided on the website leaves families with additional questions, they are encouraged to contact the Florida Department of Education; after all, having all of the facts is the first step toward choosing an appropriate school for a child.

The Worth of a Teacher

Image result for suicideSince the school year started in public schools, it has been reported via social media (Facebook) that there were already four teachers who committed suicide and the stated reason was SCHOOL-RELATED PRESSURES.

But is that really a good enough reason to commit such act? As for me, we cannot really judge them because I know for a fact the intensity of pressures in DepEd and unless those in authority would do something about it, things will always be the same.

Image result for school paper worksWith all the required paper works that each teacher are obligated to comply, patience, is indeed, a virtue. We need that in order to cope up all the pressures in meeting the deadlines, not to mention the classes that you have to handle everyday.  Pressures are real, multi-tasking is real! But if we learn the art of saying NO to some of the delegated tasks, then maybe we can control the pressure. And I am a firm believer that committing suicide is never an option to stop the burden that most of the teachers are experiencing right now. And maybe this is the right time that the department should look into consideration so that such incident won't happen again.

Gone were the days that the only thing that a teacher should attend to are teaching and recording children's progress, no more, no less. We could only hope that it will be just like the old times. In that way, quality of education can really be assured.

Why not hire a non-teaching staff to do all the paper works like record keeping, etc. instead of putting all the burdens to the teachers. that can be possible. After all, teacher are mandated to teach- other than that are an added pressure. But am not saying that they will not help in the recording anymore-of course they have to since they have the data.

So what's an ideal school then?

There are students, teachers, admin consisting of the school heads, the assistant to the school head, non-teaching personnel to function as follows: 1 registrar, 1 school record keeper, 1 property custodian, 1 librarian, 1 nurse, 1 guidance counsellor, 1 prefect of discipline, 1 disbursing officer, social worker (for the 4Ps), ICT technician (to do all ICT-related tasks).

Whew, if only this simple wishes will be heard, teaching life would be awesome!

If Only.

4 Tips for Choosing a Preschool

It can be difficult to leave your child at preschool for the first time. With these tips, however, you can take out some of the sting with the knowledge that you've chosen a high-quality school for your child!

1. Determine Your Values

Is there any particular reason that you're sending your child to preschool? If you want them to get a good start academically, you'll want to choose a preschool with an emphasis on education. If you're hoping to socialize them before kindergarten, find a preschool that offers plenty of playtime and group learning.

2. Do Your Research

This is absolutely essential when it comes to choosing a preschool. You don't want to entrust your child to a shady organization that's gotten a lot of citations and health violations over the years. Do some digging into the school and ask yourself the following questions:

- How long have they been in business?
- Are they certified, licensed or affiliated with anyone in the childcare industry?
- Do they have good reviews from other parents?

3. Stay Close

You don't want to drive an hour every morning to take your child to preschool. Not only will they be fussy during such a long commute, but you'll also be out of range during an emergency. Do yourself a favor and stick to your neighborhood when it comes to schools. Plug something like "preschool near me" into a search engine.

4. Ask About The Future

How are you going to gauge if your child is doing well in your chosen preschool? Will the school send out progress reports? Will they schedule meet-and-greets for parents, kids and educators? Can you actually monitor lessons and playtime through a webcam? Don't be afraid to ask about your options. A little planning today can make all of the difference tomorrow.

These are just a few tips for choosing a good preschool. There are many other things to consider, including the safety of the building and the quality of the staff, but these ideas should be enough to get you thinking in the right directions!

How Important is Self-worth?

Self-worth, a compound words with a complex meaning. Well, that's according to my heart and brain.

Whenever you're on the stage of your married life where your partner don't seem to value you anymore, where you are becoming less important, least priority, last option... Oh well, the list could go on, then how would you rate your self-worth? Oh no, is such words do even exist? Coz, I don't feel it anymore. Sad, but true.

Self-worth. Should we earn it for free, OR should we have to work it out to make it happen? Is it freely given, OR we still need to accomplish something to earn that thing? Well, whatever it is, one thing is for sure- if you don't find it in yourself anymore, then maybe you're becoming useless for him and your presence is unnecessary already.  Then why am I still alive when I'm unworthy anymore?

There are really stages in our lives wherein we just don't know anymore on what to do. Like you have no one to turn to, your loved ones should know nothing about your present predicament otherwise you're the one to be blamed. Along with the absence of self-worth, self-pity comes in.

4 Tips for Planning a Funeral

If you've suffered a loss, the last thing that you probably want to think about is a funeral. However, it's a necessity for sending off your loved one with grace. Here are four funeral planning tips that can help to ease the burden during this difficult time.

1. Hire a Funeral Director

Funeral directors have seen it all, so you don't have to feel ashamed about asking for help. It's literally their job to guide you through your grief and help you plan a ceremony for the sake of your loved one. Just be sure that you're hiring a worthwhile professional; look up their reviews before you commit to their services.

2. Be Frank About Money

It can be an awkward talk to have with a funeral director, especially when you're grieving, but it's better to get it out of the way right off the bat. They need to know what kind of budget that you're operating under, and you need to know what kind of service that you can expect for that price.

3. Know What You Want

Will your loved one be buried or cremated? Do you prefer an open or closed casket? Who will be allowed to speak at the funeral? Will you give your eulogy at the funeral home or by the graveside? It's up to you to decide all of this as the funeral planner, so know what you want to happen.

4. Don't Forget the Details

It's easy for things to slip by you when you're grieving, so consider making a list for things like flowers, schedules, signature books and seating arrangements. It will keep you focused as you plow through the necessary details of planning a funeral. You might not feel like looking for funeral flowers Brookfield IL, but it needs to be done.

These are just a few things to keep in mind as you prepare a funeral. Your loved one might be gone, but they can remain in your heart with the help of an elegant, tasteful ceremony. Use these suggestions to plan a funeral that honors their memory.

That Thing Called Respect

Finding The Best Handmade Leather Belts

There are so many places that sell leather belts that it can be hard to find the perfect one. However, there are a few things you can do to be sure you are purchasing the best leather belt possible.

Talk To People

The first thing you can do is talk to people who recently purchased a leather belt. Find out where they purchased their belt, how much they paid for it, are they happy, and if they recommend the supplier. It would be wise to speak with quite a few people regarding this situation because there are dozens of belt companies on the market today. Furthermore, most companies differ in price, even though they might be selling the same product, so it would be good to make sure you are paying the lowest price possible.

Search For Online Companies

The next thing you can do is search for companies online that sell leather belts. You can easily do this by using a popular search engine, but you should only visit websites that are credible. This means the website you choose to make a purchase from should have outstanding ratings and outstanding reviews. A great example of this type of company is Gavere Leather. This company is known for having the best leather belts High Springs offers. This company also custom makes leather belts by hand, too.
Leather belts are no longer as cheap as they were years ago, so you must spend your money on a belt that is going to lat you a long time. Furthermore, a leather belt is no longer a hidden accessory. A leather belt is now a fashion statement that can say a lot about who you are as a person, so you should strive to find a belt that speaks to you.

The Philippines is NOT A Poor Country

For more than a decade since my younger sister left for US and got married there, she wasn't able to come back here for so many reasons and among those reasons, according to her, is that-Philippines is way too behind from America. Well, she may be right but this American citizen got the opposite thoughts and I'd like to commend his opinion about our beloved country:

Let's Talk About Success

The success of a person greatly depends on his will and determination to achieve it. If a man started to plan how to succeed during the early stage of his life, he is likely to achieve his goal. However, if a man put his future in abeyance, then obviously, he is putting his life at risk. Nobody really knows what lies ahead of us, however, we can have that assurance that everything will be alright if we only consider all the consequences of our every moves. Yes, we do not know what the future holds for us, but we can control the negative factors like failures if we plan our decisions carefully. Man's failure is sometimes equated to wrong decisions in life.

Learning from other's experience is among those factors that could influence us in making the right decisions. we just have to be observant in our surroundings. We must learn how to weigh things out, especially on those issues where we could sometimes compromise. For example, getting into a serious relationship at an early age. We all know that this could be a hindrance to our studies. Still, we sometimes rationalize that we need someone special to inspire us. But for me, it's not really necessary. The very reason why there are cases of teenage pregnancy is simply because of wrong connotations about love. So why take the risk? Another example is wrong choice of companion/friends. We might not admit it, but our wrong impressions about life is an influence we got from our so-called "friends".

Indeed, our success solely depends on us. The formula is very simple. We just have to live our life to the fullest wherein we can be an asset to our society instead of a liability. We should act to inspire others, especially our family. If we have a wrong decisions in the past-just move on and learn from it. Like others, I also believe in second chances- we all deserve second chances. After all, life is all about chances. All we need is faith and love from our loved ones in order to survive.

Embracing the World of Toxicity

Have you been into a situation wherein you're given a task that is beyond your line of duty and it happened because they find you as the perfect fit for the job descriptions. Well, it's not really an issue. However, there are some people who treats you like a machine. They let you overworked by giVing you one task after the other. Honestly, I am flexible type of person. I am teachable and able to adjust well to any task that I'll be assigned to. However, this positive attitude sometimes leads me to the world of toxicity- that is, having the feeling of being exploited with the things that you're capable of. Another thing, I appreciate it when I'm corrected with my work because through that I'll be able to learn, but if your work is being corrected multiple times because after correcting your work based on their comment, another correction follows and so on and so forth- it's a real headache honestly. No human could stand their patience for long given that  kind of situation?

Now, I realized, it's not at all times good to show to the people what you've got. You know why? You'll be misused, overused, exploited.

Sad reality.

Professionals For Dementia Care

The Worrisome Disease

There is a lot of confusion surrounding dementia. Unless it affects you or your family specifically, you may not ever learn the full particulars about what dementia is and what it entails. Essentially, dementia itself is not a disease. Rather it's the name given to a group of symptoms. Sometimes, dementia can turn into the more popularly known Alzheimer's. Other times, dementia can be caused because of a stroke. Sometimes, the causes of dementia just aren't as clear or unknown entirely.

One of the largest and most profound symptoms of dementia is memory loss. This can affect their ability to communicate or conduct language. Other symptoms of dementia include the inability to focus as well as pay attention, being able to utilize reason and judge fairly, and they may have visual problems. Memory loss, however, is the culprit behind dementia and eventually Alzheimer's.

For many, it can seem simple by merely affecting their short-term memory. So, they may forget where they put their keys or wallet, or if they paid their bills or not, or even to cook a meal for themselves. They may even forget to take their medications or go to scheduled appointments. As the disease continues, the memory becomes even worse, eventually affecting the long-term memory as well.

Professional Care

Because of the difficulties with the disease, if you're faced with a loved one developing dementia, you may want to consider dementia care Norwalk CT. While you may feel that you can take care of your loved one, at times they are going to need care that you are not trained or prepared to give. As such, to ensure their maximum health and safety, it is best that you give trained professionals a try to help them instead.

You can still help your loved one in other ways, but an experienced professional who knows how to care for a dementia patient can only help your loved one. For their best interest, call them now.

Maintaining Moral Decency

James Reid sitting next to a window: 'Anong masama dun?' Blogger, Mocha Uson rumesbak sa mga kritiko ng 'pepederalismo' video scandal
Photo not mine
Being in a government agency where people are scrutinizing the way you behave and act on a certain issues is absolutely not an easy job. As for me, I have nothing against those who tried to help pursuing a positive change for our country, those who are in tune with what the President are trying to achieve. However, there are just some cases that the entrusted people of the President should take into consideration. Considering that the President have lots of critics, especially those from the opposing political lineage, they should be sensitive enough with all their actions because everything they do will affect the President.

With the hot issue right now about federalism, I am neither agree nor disagree with it. I trusted the President of all his wisdom about it. Helping him in promoting the issue is not bad at all as long as it will not defeat his ultimate purpose. However, with what goes viral right now in the social media regarding Mocha Uson's way of promoting federalism wherein his co-blogger, Drew Olivar did a just for fun choreographed dance with a double meaning lyrics of the song that goes along with it, it really stir up varied reactions from the viewers, not to mention the government leaders who found it to be disgusting enough to be published and viewed in the social media. Personally, I don't like it as well. Indeed, it's so disgusting, an unbecoming actions for a government official. Both of them responded to people's reaction claiming that they have done nothing wrong and it is just the people who tried to put malice on the lyrics. Well, they could made all the alibis that they have in mind but they cannot justify what they did because the truth is, people find it offending at all. Who could blame them, after all? They should have considered the consequences of their actions- they should have maintained moral decency especially that they have the social media as their main platform- and the greater population as their critics.

For the Love of my Profession

I've been teaching for a total of 13 years, 11 years in HEI as part-time instructor and 4 years in public high school. The teaching job is not easy but because of my love, commitment, and pure dedication on this job, I embrace the complexity, the burden as well as the "challenges" (in broader sense) of this job. Yes, there are lots of things that should be reviewed in the system but nevertheless, we are still holding on to this job. You know the reason why? It's not merely about our salary because honestly it's not that rewarding considering the many ancillary that held us accountable. It's all about passion. Our passion to mold younger generation in order to make them a useful citizen in the future. In fact, it is our great pride seeing them excel in their chosen craft. How much more seeing them becoming a mentor as well. Right now I have four colleagues who used to be my students in the university where I used to teach. I could only wish that few years from now, more of my students will finish their studies. Their success is what fuels us to do more, to strive harder, to go on and hold on to this job. Yes, teaching is the noblest profession of all. If there are some teachers you know who dreaded this job then probably they're just been mistakenly took this job for the wrong reason.

I am so proud that I am a teacher. A catalyst of change!

A New Approach to Teaching Children

An Early Education

It has been made clear that for a child to be successful later in life, their education plays a heavy role. Because of this, many parents are seeking ways to introduce education early to their child. However, not all children are, themselves, prepared for some of the approaches that certain schools take. For many, they are still in certain parts of their development and thus are not prepared or ready for the traditional forms of education. However, there is an educational approach that has seen wide popularity in Silicon Valley and has been reaching other parts of the country since.

This approach is called the Reggio Emilia model. In this model, Reggio Emilia schools mix play with education. Effectively, they examine the child's interests and create a model of education that mixes those interests with learning. In this way, the child is developing without even realizing that they are receiving an education. For many schools, this is an art-based approach, although certainly not limited to it.

One of the schools in Florida that has seen incredible success by adopting the Reggio Emilia model is Bartram Academy. While they keep their school size small, this allows the teachers to know their students and their students' families closely. Relationships are formed, and teachers are then better equipped to understand the child's interests and strengths and come up with lesson plans that better impact them. Considering that the Reggio Emilia model was given the award of being one of the best educational systems in the world in 1991, there is something to be said for it.

Whether you live in Florida or elsewhere, you may want to consider placing your child in a school that focuses on this form of a model. From one-year-olds to pre-kindergarten, many of these schools are still looking for students. However, because of the rising popularity of the Reggio Emilia model, seats are filling quickly. If you want your child to have a headstart, you should act now.
